Warrant Group's Finance Manager John Healy talks Brexit, the Cloud and Everton FC in our latest In the Spotlight column.
Can you describe your role and highlight what you enjoy most about it.
Working alongside my team, we are responsible for managing daily transactions in and out of the business. I enjoy the fact that every day brings a new and different challenge. As the saying goes, no two days are ever the same!
What have been the major developments/key issues in your field during recent years?
Working in finance is varied and there are so many things to keep abreast of, one of the biggest changes for us internally was migrating our accounts package to the cloud. Accounting platforms have traditionally been isolated and restrictive to a physical location for working, this change has enabled us secure access to our finance package anywhere, at any time which allows us to view customer accounts in real time and on demand. It marks a huge shift in working practises - the days of carrying files and paperwork to a customer's premises are long gone, data is now available on demand meaning we can work smarter.
What are likely to be the big challenges in the future?
The most obvious challenge to a lot of companies in the UK is Brexit. What will happen from a financial point of view when article 50 is invoked remains to be seen, we are excited about potential opportunities that this may bring and remain positive about the future of UK plc.
Besides a successful career in global logistics, what was your dream job when you were a child?
I always dreamed of being an RAF pilot but after college I discovered the world of finance and I've never been able to get away since!
Name three things you can't live without.
My wife, my son and Everton FC.
